Re: Monopod
I know they are silly money, but I use both of these on my feisol monopod for mounting the 500, the feisol PB-70 and the RRS head. It means they stay level and cannot fall over like a ball.
I got the monopod and RRS head second hand and at a steal, I could sell the head alone for more than what I paid for the lot, I added the panning base under the head, as good as a ball head without the grief.Last edited by TonyT; 26-01-2017, 14:15.Canon 1DX, 50D, EF500 F4.0 L, EF100-400 f/4.5-5.6L I , EF100-400 f/4.5-5.6L II, EF70-200 f/2.8L II, EF180 f3.5L Macro, EF 24-105 f/4L, EF17-40 f/4L, EF2.0X III, EF1.4X III, 430EX II, MR-14EX...

Re: Monopod
Yes I have seen them, I don't know what they are like quality wise though, some of the stuff is great. Have the odd bit of sunphoto? And from what I have read Sirui isn't bad, Benro are good.
Manfrotto do a similar one that is on the pod I sent Nat. I used to use it with my 100-400 and 70-200 and it was fine, didn't shift when I didn't want it to and was smooth enough.
I must admit at being an RRS fan and when I saw mine being sadly sold in an estate sale, I lept at it.Last edited by TonyT; 26-01-2017, 18:22.Canon 1DX, 50D, EF500 F4.0 L, EF100-400 f/4.5-5.6L I , EF100-400 f/4.5-5.6L II, EF70-200 f/2.8L II, EF180 f3.5L Macro, EF 24-105 f/4L, EF17-40 f/4L, EF2.0X III, EF1.4X III, 430EX II, MR-14EX...

Re: Monopod
Will let you know how I get on with the Monopod. I am sure this will be more useful and used more often than my heavy Giottos tripod.Last edited by Nathaniel; 27-01-2017, 23:17.Canon 6D; Canon 760D;Canon G15;Canon 40mm f2.8(Pancake);Canon 50mm f1.8(ii); Canon 17mm-40mm f4L;Canon EF-S 10-18mm f4.5-5.6 IS STM;Canon EF-S 55-250mm f4-5.6 STM lens;Canon 24mm-105mmf4L IS;Canon 70-300mm f4-f5.6 L IS USM;Kenko 1.4x HD TC;Canon 430EX ii flash;Giottos tripod;Manfretto monopod;Cokin P filters + bits and pieces!

Re: Monopod
I have now received the Manfrotto 680B from Tony and the main thing I like about it is that it is so light weight. As I am weight conscious as most members know this is a real delight for me even to carry it in one hand. Re: Monopod
Hi Nat pleased you obtained the Manfrotto 680B,sure the 678 folding base feet would work for you especially in confined areas.
Tucking up under the Monopod they can be utilised as required inturn giving you the stability similar to a tripod.

Re: Monopod
Just thought I'd let the members know that I used my Monopod for the first time in taking pictures of the stained glass windows shown in the thread "specialist" subjects- Pantasaph Friary. It was rock steady with the camera and there was no camera shake, no nothing. I have an excellent Giottos tripod but I am sure I will be using the monopod quite often in certain situations.Canon 6D; Canon 760D;Canon G15;Canon 40mm f2.8(Pancake);Canon 50mm f1.8(ii); Canon 17mm-40mm f4L;Canon EF-S 10-18mm f4.5-5.6 IS STM;Canon EF-S 55-250mm f4-5.6 STM lens;Canon 24mm-105mmf4L IS;Canon 70-300mm f4-f5.6 L IS USM;Kenko 1.4x HD TC;Canon 430EX ii flash;Giottos tripod;Manfretto monopod;Cokin P filters + bits and pieces!

Dare I say, to somebody I don't know in person, 'great minds...' as I was just about to put a post on here asking what your early impressions of the monopod were - I'm considering getting one for the big trip, later this year.

Re: Monopod
Lawsyd, I Use a Carbon Fibre Feisol one, there are a wide range of makes to choose from, as said items like Manfrotto etc are very very good, topped off with a decent head and they are invaluable, but buy a decent one and it will last you for life. The Manfrotto that Nat has originally could have a warranty as long as 10 years, says it all really.
You can also get belt holsters to put them in, if anything I find that the biggest problem with them at shows etc, it is where to put it when not in use... Though camera bags often have holders in them......
My 500mm is ok as that stays clamped to it and rests over a shoulder with the monopod in my hand balancing it..... If that makes sense.Last edited by TonyT; 08-02-2017, 19:50.Canon 1DX, 50D, EF500 F4.0 L, EF100-400 f/4.5-5.6L I , EF100-400 f/4.5-5.6L II, EF70-200 f/2.8L II, EF180 f3.5L Macro, EF 24-105 f/4L, EF17-40 f/4L, EF2.0X III, EF1.4X III, 430EX II, MR-14EX...

Sorry about the name gaff, damn auto spell corrector strikes again..
Forgot to add when buying, think about what you are going use it for both now and possibly in the future, and work out the weight capacity you need when choosing.Canon 1DX, 50D, EF500 F4.0 L, EF100-400 f/4.5-5.6L I , EF100-400 f/4.5-5.6L II, EF70-200 f/2.8L II, EF180 f3.5L Macro, EF 24-105 f/4L, EF17-40 f/4L, EF2.0X III, EF1.4X III, 430EX II, MR-14EX...

PS - Don't worry about the name - I've been called an awful lot worse, in the last few days, on another photographic forum.
