I have been advised that with Wi FI printers one should keep them switched on all the time and not to turn the machine off. I will try this and see how far this works for me- until my cable arrives!

I do just the opposite and turn the printer on and off as needed and as I said, it's never been a problem despite having an iMac and a windows 10 machine wirelessly connected to it.

In general I would leave an inkjet printer powered on - because it will usually perform a nozzle clean at each power on which will consume ink.

Additionally I would tend to leave any service device ( such as a printer ) which does not have a static IP address powered on.

No golden rules here - to each their own.

Leaving the printer powered will, I presume, not add to my electricity consumption?

Strictly, yes ... but by less than boiling an extra kettle of water per year.

I must say that by leaving the Wi-Fi printer powered on, it is printing very well without any problems!- so far.

Without getting technical there's a lot of "stuff" which happens when you power on a Wi-FI device. I leave my HP permanently on and it works perfectly across my Windows / macOS / iOS devices.

I very rarely want to print something from my tablet/phone so just email to myself if necessary.

So my solution is to connect printer to PC by cable then share it. I can then print to it from all my other computers, laptops (connected to network wirelessly) and other desktop.

Only requirement is the machine the printer is connected to needs to be on for rest to be able to access.
