5dmk2 as second camera to 7dmk2

    Hi All.

upgraded my 7dmk1 8mths ago to the new mk2 and have suffered focus problems, have tested and micro adjusted with little success, have discussed with WEX and they have accepted it back for repair/replacement, so here's hoping.

Have considered a foray into full frame and have been offered a 5dmk2 in mint condition, 4yr old with 17000 actuations with all boxes etc. £600. to use alongside the 7dmk2

Having the 7dmk2 problems, have read many reviews all over the net re the 5dmk2, outcome suggests 5dmk2 suffered in early years with focus problems.

So as you can see don't want to buy a pup.

Anyone out there able to advise on the abilities and reputation of the 5dmk2 ?

    Thanks in advance H.

It was the camera I always aspired to when i was using a 50D....at that time no one would have doubted the capabilities. It was the wedding togs workhorse. The only concern I know of was mirror mechanism issues that were fixed by recall (I think). I wouldn't have any doubts - it didn't cease to be excellent when the MKIII arrived. If I needed a second body I'd still consider a MKI.....just my ten penneth..
I hope your 7D2 gets sorted.

      thanks Brian,
seems the price of a good 5dmk1 is pretty close to the offer I have had for the mk2, and for a "younger" camera, Oh decisions decisions!

A 4 yr old 5D2 isn't an early model. I really wanted one of these cameras, so many great shots I'd seen taken with them.

The 5D MK II was announced in September 2008 and continued in production until the end of 2012.
While it was in production, it was the most popular professional camera, for landscape especially. I have picked up quite a few used books from a few years ago, and a very high percentage of images in them were taken with it. It was voted "greatest ever digital SLR" in one poll.
Some films and TV were also filmed using its video capabilities.
Having bought a 6D (used) I'm still considering a used 5D MK II as another full frame body.
              EOS 6D, 6D Mk II, 80D, 70D, 100D, 200D, M50, M100. Canon 10-18, 18 - 55, 55 - 250 IS STM lenses, Canon 16 - 35 mm F4L, 35 mm EF-S macro, 50 mm F1.8 STM, 60 mm EF-S macro, MPE-65 macro, 85 mm F1.8, 200 mm F2.8 L II, M 15 - 45 mm, M 22mm F2, M 32mm F1.4. Sigma 24 - 35 F2 Art, 135 mm F1.8 Art, 17 - 50 F2.8 DC, 105 mm OS macro, 100 - 400 C, 150 - 600 C.

the 5D mk2 is an excellent camera. I owned one until the 6D came along and I upgraded to the the latter. Any day I will recommend the 6D over the 5D mk2 mainly due to it's excellent low light capabilities.

                  Thanks All.
Seems 6d could be another option to enter the full frame world, have to think long and hard, no news on my 7dmk2 yet so hopefully the longer without news the better the outcome?! Again thanks.
