    Back Button Focus

I have started to use Back Button Focus on my Canon 5D mk111 but I have a question.

For moving subjects (steam trains) coming from left to right…….

1: When the train gets to my middle focus point do I hold the back button down and wait until its near the right side before firing off my shots?

    or

2: Do I set my focus points where I want to take my shot and wait till the train is there then hold the back button down and fire away?

    Re: Back Button Focus

Of course you could switch off AF, pre focus at the point you want to take your image.

Another way is to use all 61 points and let the AF track the train movement.

      Re: Back Button Focus

Well you set continuous focus and hold the back button down focussing on the part of the train that you want to use as the focal point and then shoot when in the frame according to your intended composition.
I've set mine up with the selected focus case, auto ISO with manual aperture and shutter etc to the C2 setting
