Some news about Nikon, hope it's not a sign of things to come in the sector.

Nikon dropped a couple of very troubling bombshells today. The first was a "Recognition of Extraordinary Loss" due to company-wide restructuring; the

interesting times ahead with the big two - makes you wonder what impact phones are having as the images they produce are getting better and better, makes you wonder if soon if camera photography isn't going to become a niche market

Some young people already ask "What mobile did you use?" when they see a photo. They're quite surprised to hear that other methods are available. It's the compact market that's being most affected, SLRs have always been a niche, even in film days, difficult to remember that on a forum like this where they are the norm.
      EOS 6D, 6D Mk II, 80D, 70D, 100D, 200D, M50, M100. Canon 10-18, 18 - 55, 55 - 250 IS STM lenses, Canon 16 - 35 mm F4L, 35 mm EF-S macro, 50 mm F1.8 STM, 60 mm EF-S macro, MPE-65 macro, 85 mm F1.8, 200 mm F2.8 L II, M 15 - 45 mm, M 22mm F2, M 32mm F1.4. Sigma 24 - 35 F2 Art, 135 mm F1.8 Art, 17 - 50 F2.8 DC, 105 mm OS macro, 100 - 400 C, 150 - 600 C.

The mobile that replaces your DSLR is one that keeps coming up. There seems to be articles trying to prove the point all the time.

Just read another article that looked at phone versus DSLR. The conclusions will not be a surprise when compared to DSLR.

Phone images are good but reley on manipulation of the data, for example the faux Bokeh. The low light images were noisy. Detail poor in comparison.

Whilst a phone is OK for scenes I can think of areas where it wouldn't compete, like macro and wildlife.

agree, for I bet its those day to day snappers that would have invested in a camera now just use a phone.. I was looking at some images with a Samsung 7 edge ... very impressive, and the 8 is supposed to be even better

Things will change over the years but in what way ,unless you have a crystal ball that is ,I often think back to what my dear old dad would think of today's world ,he's been dead now for 34 years bless him ,but in his day ,there were no personal computers ,to talk to someone on the phone you had to run through the house to reach it .no internet to get mail you had to wait for the postman ,and although the speed limit was still 70 mph back then family saloon cars capable of 120-160 mph and Turbo charged didn't exist .the photos you could take would be on a roll of film .
And what would he have made of my wafer thin 50" t.v .so yes change happens ever more rapidly these days it's up to you how you use those changes and as Nikon have found out there has to be a end market
