An Afternoon of early music by the Ensemble 1677

Saturday 18th Feb was a red letter day for St.Grwst's church, Llanrwst when the Ensemble 1677 performed to raise funds for the church. The lead singer Olivia Hunt was one time Head choirster at Chester Cathedral and is the Artistic Director; she was also a finalist in the BBC's Radio 2's 2009 young choirster of the year competition. John Hoskings is the concert manager and is the Asst Director of Music at St.Asaph Cathedral. He plays the Harpsichord,Organ and is the concert Manager. All pictures taken with the Canon 6D +17-40mm (marmite) lens. TV 80;auto ISO;auto WB;f4. Flash was only used for the group photo. The monopod was very useful and one of my most important accessory for low light photography. It kept my hands & camera very steady.

Nice set Nat, light looks good to me, really like #1 they look happy to pose for you, tiny shame you didn't get all their feet in, as you appear to have lots of room above.

Thanks Paul. Actually I did get more of their feet in but there were other obstacles like tombs in front. So I cropped the picture to remove those obstacles. Yes, bit of a tight squeeze but the performers seemed quite happy with the picture!!!!!

Thanks Ian. Yes, but I suppose one has to "honour the dead"! I am sure you have come across such "obstacles" in your church/building photography and as I am not very converstant with cloning out such items as you are, I prefer to crop them out!!!!!!!

P.S Hope you like the IQ of the marmite lens (17-40) which is pin sharp for me.

I knew that would be happy with the pic, they appear happy in the pic too so obviously having a good time, just an observation though Nat, not a criticism, I did wonder if you were hampered by things, I have done a few Church Weddings and I know that things can often be in the most awkward places. Still, I don't suppose the Architects and builders gave much thought about Photographers a few hundred years ago!!

Paul, I am not bothered by criticisms etc as I know that they are made for my benefit. Yes, I am very often confronted with "obstacles" when taking pictures inside churches and Cathedrals- the latter is the most "troublesome". I am not an expert in cloning these objects out and hence I prefer the easier option of "cropping" where it is possible. Yes, I fully agree that the builders and Architects never thought that some day people will be taking photographs inside churches and cathedrals.

P.S Having stated the above, I am now aware that there is quite a lot of "re-ordering" within churches so that the buildings become "multi use and ,multi purpose". I know that our own parish church is going through this process. So possibly photographers might have an easier time when taking photographs.

                      Nice ones Nat

That's the problem with churches, no one envisaged cameras when they built them.
