The railway bridge at Arnside on the Morcambe Bay estuary, looking towards the River Kent.

This really has to be seen on Flickr to fully appreciate the textures and detail. At first viewing on here I thought, hmm that's a bit dark and uninspiring, but when seen full size it is truly gorgeous. I really love the starkness of the almost-silhouetted bridge against the foreboding sky.

Would have to agree with Alex, this needs to be viewed on Flickr to appreciate the tonal differences in the image. Well done Steve

A totally different shot when viewed on Flickr. If mine I would crop a little from the left side just to shift the train from the centre. That aside I really like it

Hi everyone, many thanks for your compliments.

Alan, yes I know what you mean. I'm a firm believer in the rule of thirds, but somehow I just liked it when the train, and maybe more importantly, the background 'halo' of the sky, were centred.

Having said that, I does now look like the train is heading into the frame.

Works better for the edit, I think.

                  An excellent image

                  +1 for Flickr
-1 for the edit - I think you got it right first time as you've lost the lead in from the left corner which took my eye to the signal and derelict building then back to the train. Furthermore the crop has enlarged the image making the noise more prominent.

                  Cheers,
                  John

                    Re: Arnside

Unusual image -well spotted and I love the stark lines.

Not sure about the crop. Both work for me but I liked the letterbox look of the original and there was good lead in from the water and fence on the left to the train.

The unconventional makes it memorable............so maybe it's a vote for nš 1!

Thanks again for all your kind comments.

Personally I prefer the first image, I'm quite fond of the letterbox format for landscapes.

                      Regards.
