    Jumping Spider and a fly

First macro insect of the season from the weekend, the spider is only 3 -4 mm in length so you can imagine how big the prey was in comparison. It took him around an hour to devour him so lots of opportunity for shots. I rather like this one with the sun catching the fly wing

Shot with my Canon 100 f2.8 LIS macro lens, 1/640, f8, ISO 400

Stunning detail Stan and lovely subtle colours on the victim's wing.

Excellent. I've toyed with the idea of getting a macro lens for insects, etc. but can't quite stretch to the f/2.8L.

Get the 105 mm Sigma, it's as good optically and half the price.

I used to have the Tamron 90 which was a super lens but the drawback was it did not have internal focussing which meant the barrel extended out a fair way making it difficult for real close up images so I replaced it with the Canon which is top quality

The Sigma is also excellent but you probably need to go for the new version which has internal focus which the older cheaper version does not

Thanks Stan. I recently had a browse on eBay and had spotted that there were what looked like different lenses but now I know why. Cheers.

Yes, I've still got my old Tamron, massive extension when getting close, plus a/f not exactly quiet or smooth. The main annoyance with the Sigma is that one gets an irritating noise from the IS, not something I've found with other Sigma lenses.
