    Millar Arcade, Preston City Centre

Millar_2257 by Stephen Thompson, on Flickr

I spotted this beautiful arcade, on the fringe of Preston's city centre, on my travels a few years ago.

400D with Sigma 10-20mm, maybe not the best combination for handling chromatic aberrations, but I couldn't just walk on by.

I like that, must have been tricky keeping the verticals vertical.

Don't remember this place from my days in Preston but then I was a student so rarely got past the first pub I came to...

A beautifully lit and composed shot of a lovely old arcade I don't know if the roof frames do go to a point but, if so, it would have made a nice shot even nicer, by including it.

        Cheers,

Very nice shot but I do agree with John regarding the apex.

Now with roofline, showing chromatic aberration that was previously cropped.

                Many thanks for your comments.

Hmm, that's quite a lot of aberration. Can you not take it out or reduce it in post processing?

Like that, Stephen, particularly the second which shows the ironwork in the ceiling. From the exif I see you've put them through PS so I'd say they were worth a bit more effort in sorting out the chromatic aberration.

The aberraton get worse towards the edge of frame, so I'm not sure just how much improvement would be possible.

I'm thinking that stopping down would have been a better idea.
Maybe f6.3 was just too wide.

I have had very respectable results with this lens stopped right down.

Very nice. I like the final processed print (no. 1) but seeing no. 2 shows what the original was like and helps me see the differences. We usually only see the finished article so this is a positive for me to learn the 'tricks of the trade'.
