    Reflecting on Mount Cook

Whilst on our way to Mount Cook Village alongside Lake Pukaki, we spotted a car park which was called Peters Lookout. It would have been rude of me not to stop seeing as how they named it after me . All of the people who were there stayed at the car park. However I decided to tramp down to the lakeside and I'm so glad I did as this was the scene that greeted me.

    Update:-
Two comparison images added which hopefully answer Barbara's question regarding the blue colours in the original image. All three images have been processed in the same way. Lens corrections, highlights and shadows, white and black points set in LR. Then to PS for two NIK layers, define, and some local contrast enhancement using Colour Efex Pro at a low opacity. Sharpened and resized for display here.

    1. The original image in this thread, which prompted Bo to ask about the blue colour.

    2. Comparison Car Park Scene, taken the same day as 1 above, not one of my better compositions. But it does show the blue's and how the sky impacts on the scene.

    3. Second comparison Car Park Scene, taken the day after 1 and 2 above. Whilst not the same composition, I hope it shows the difference that a blue sky has on the overall image. In this image the lake surface has a bit of wave/wind movement on it, unlike the first where the sufaces was flat calm and like a mirror.

What a stunning view, worth the traipse!

May I politely ask if your colours were boosted or was it really so blue?

Bo the light in NZ is a photographers dream, unless its raining of course [emoji6]. The reflections of the sky enhance the water colours to give what you see here.
The next morning at the same lookout the lake was totally different, as the morning was overcast. I'll see if I can find time tomorrow (jet lag enhanced by a glass of two of wine prevents me doing it now) to do a couple of comparisons using images from the car park, as I didn't venture down to the lakeside on the way out of Mount Cook village.

Thanks Brian, I've got a few thousand images from the trip to process, including some of Mount Cook from our one night stay in the village. I'll add them to this thread in the morning.

Beautiful, and for me the colours are just right because that's just how I remember them on my visit to NZ about 3 years ago. A lovely photo which has brought all those good memories of the country.

THanks for the other pictures Peter - I see what you mean about the natural colours and all this achieved with only standard tweaking.

As you say a photographer's dream ! I'm looking at your other posts with great interest
