    Sika Stag

A morning at RSPB Arne hoping to catch sight of the sika deer which have not been to co operative of late - unusually saw 4 stags together but too close to get any more than one in the frame at a time

Nice one, staring straight down the Lens, he's probably thinking, what's he looking at.

                    Re: Sika Stag

Nice one Stan . If Sika are like Fallow Deer , they form bachelor parties this time of year , and they tend to roam in their own sex groups . The Antlers will start to shed soon , and once that happens , I have found the males to become more elusive , though this of course could be due to the fact that with a lack of Antlers , they will resemble the females much more at distance . I like how you included the habitat here .

both have been quite elusive during the past few visits - I go regularly and in the past it was the exception not to get a few near sightings. As to the antlers, I assume they fall off individually as one of the stags only had one - not processed that shot yet

If they have been managing their numbers , which is very likely for this time of year , as the season is drawing to a close , it will make them much more skit . Your spot on , they normally do shed one at time , but they soon try and shake or rub the other off , as it makes them feel unbalanced . Looking forward to your one Antler photo .
