    Lens Hood EF-S 10-18mm STM

...the SRB 62mm rubber lens hood works well on this lens but you have to remove the metal rind from its inside....else it protrudes too much at 10mm. It still fits securely without the ring.
Push it right back fro 10mm and extend for 18mm
Thus you get the benefit of a bit of drop protection and some shading from potential flare....and only £5.00!

I tend to remove the lenshood when I open up my lens; it tends to vignette.

I bought a cheap one from Amazon, designed to fit the lens, it works fine at all focal lengths.

The SRB doesn't if folded back Nat...but the Amazon one - Re Richard's post might be better....not sure if it has any impact at the 18mm end....the rubber one folds out of course so has that covered.

I have got the bespoke, hard plastic lenshood. I am interested in what Richard has said and will look into it.

Of course, any lens hood for a zoom lens can only be designed to correctly cover the widest focal length, to avoid vignetting, so that they can't be as efficient at the longer end. Folding back a rubber hood does allow you to modify the coverage to more precisely suit the focal length in use, provide that you remember to change it as you zoom ........ which is easy to forget.
