Looking on Flickr there does seem to be some slight lack of definition - is it an HDR image? - or could this be a manifestation of diffraction limitation at f22?

No it isn't I did however accidentally know the lens off a desk, it was wrapped in foam and wasnt a long drop as I semi caught it on the way down, so I thought it would be ok. it might be, lol I don't know why it was up there. I will check the others I took too.

The original size does look a little on the soft side but I doubt it's a lens fault - more likely diffraction. On a 17mm lens I be surprised if you needed to use anything smaller than f16 and you'd probably have been OK at f11...

Thanks, I will have another go, when I dropped it, it knocked the reversed hood off and sprung the circlip on the filter, the main body was foam wrapped so i thought the lens hood etc took the impact. Hopefully all is ok and I will try again. Good news is it is insured.

Stackman, that is an excellent group of shots, well done, I do like the way they lead the eye in. On your last one I would have lost the flagpole as it does not add anything to the image and being cut off distracts from the sky above the castle and that would help plant the building into its surroundings if that makes sense..

Lee, interesting age to the building, it reminds me of an RAF 1940's built officers mess in design, well done.

One of Thomas Hardy's house (now NT). Looks much better in original resolution, but I don't subscribe to Flikr.

That's an excellent shot and what a stunning house, considering it is just an oblong box as is most of the stuff built today, they seemed to have got an understated style into it that modern properties are so sadly lacking.

I thought Melbourne was named after Lord Melbourne, the then PM (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melbourne) But maybe he got his name from Melbourne Hall, or it was his gaff...

Incidentally, it is ironic that we should be having a theme on historic buildings when I am in Abu Dhabi for a couple of months - historic is anything over about 2 months... Perhaps when I finally get to Al Ain we will have something a bit older...

                        Best

Since we are heading into June and the start of summer when people head to the nearest waterhole to cool off, make the subject water?

That makes sense, good idea, how about adding / expanding it a bit, say water and or sand.... that way Richard can play too....

I am happy to put whatever the subject is up for the next one unless someone else wishes too..

Any other suggestions? should I do a pm shot off all of those that played this time?
