    Sigma contemporary 100-400mm Bazooka lens

I don't know whether any member has bought this new lens and their views on it. I am thinking of buying this lens in place of my Canon 70-300mmf4 L lens, although I love the latter; more so the Canon keeps it's value very well. I note that with a crop body and 1.4tc it gives a "reach" of 896mm at the top end as against the Canon which goes up to 672mm at the top end. The weight of this Sigma is quite OK with me.

    Many thanks

    Nat

O.k doubt you will get feedback it's to new ,what I would do is give London camera exchange in Chester a call ask if they have one in stock ,if so pop over there and try one out ,they are very good like that .it will also be the same price as Argos ,steer well clear of unwarranted. E..bay grey imports

Nat don't know where your getting your info from every u.k dealer has it on pre.order ,,I.e they have not yet been released in canon mount in the u.k .so asking for advise from owners is a bit horse before the cart .beware of paying for one and waiting several weeks for delivery !!

Nat just seen this review. Seems to be a bit of a shortcoming in the OS.

Wouldn`t you be better off getting the canon 1-400 mk ll Nat ? Assuming you wont be keeping the 70 -300 , by the time you traded in that lens and added the £800 odd you would spend on the sigma you wont be far off the cost of the Canon I wouldn`t of thought . It`s supposed to be as sharp as the 400 F5.6 prime , and that`s a very sharp lens , it also focuses very close , which is good for larger insects like Butterflies and Dragons . It`s on my want list .

I would definitely recommend the Canon 100-400....I have the MKI and its brilliant and I know the MKII is even better...see Ian Theobold/Tigger's flickr.
Its not as big and heavy as you think either.
I wen't out with mine on the 5D3 and with 17-40F4L in a Domke F5XZ bag (not vey big at all)

Thanks folks for your valuable comments. I think I will wait and see from any member who gets the new Sigma before I go any further. The Canon 100-400 mk 2 is very tempting as well. I also consider the Canon brand as an investment too as the lenses keep their value very well, compared to third party lenses.

If you can wait a few months the price of the Sigma should have dropped based on past experience. The UK seems to pay a heavy price for early adopters. In case you haven't seen the videos there is a full review on YouTube by Dustin Abbot.

I am in two minds re the Sigma Bazooka lens as my present Canon 70-300mm lens is so bitingly sharp. Furthermore with the 1.4 (Kenko) extender & the crop factor of my 760D, I get 672mm. With the Sigma I would get 896mm a the top end. I have to think further on this lens.
