I'll have a look at it once my new toy turns up.

yes I use it for most editing in some form or another, plus its a stunning library - a lot that use Macphun have moved over to luminar which does seem to be a stunning editor but I can't comment on that as I've not tried it yet

My experience may be of use. I used Luminar for some time this year, really liked it, but have stopped for a while until they sort out the problems with editing more than one image at a time. From what their support people told me at the time, each time you open a new file it's like opening another running Luminar, so almost doubles the memory used. This may not be an issue for Canon raw files but on my larger Fuji X-Pro2 images it was a disaster. So much so that my 8gig MacBook pro would grind to a halt.

The other thing Luminar doesn't have is asset management. To your second question, LR would give you that - the cataloguing etc. - and you can use Luminar as a plugin within LR so that would give you the best of both worlds. The only downside is that LR is a bit of a memory hog itself so you may run into that old memory problem again. Memory usage by LR and general slowness was why I stopped using it myself.

I still bought Luminar in spite of these limitations - the asset management bit is promised and I hope they fix the memory issue sometime soon - but don't use it. It's a really good looking and powerful product, they really have got a lot right with it.

As of now, I'm using Adobe Bridge, PhotoShop CS6 and the Nik Plugins which gives me a lot of the capabilities of Luminar (It's almost as if Macphun learned from the approach the writers of Nik took) but is a lot less integrated.

                HTH.
