    As to the 24-105 .... yep, despite so-so reviews for both old & new versions, most people who have it love it & I do fancy that extra bit of reach ;)

    Hmm ... seems a product advisory has been issued for the new 24-105:

    Good news... You're quite right; I just got an email from Wex...

    Not good news; but once identified Canon are pretty good at fixing things up...
    If it's a software issue, it's a shame Canon don't have a similar system to Sigma's (new'ish) USB dock; although if it's a hardware adjustment it wouldn't help of course...
    Cheers;

    Yep, got that email too :)

    If I do go for the 24-105, I'd probably get it from Amazon whose price is pretty competitive (but changes daily!) Then I could check the serial number & return it if one of the affected ones ;)

    I recently upgraded from the 24-105L Mkl to the Mkll version, and have not been disappointed.

    If there is any difference in the image quality, then I haven't noticed it. It certainly equals the Mkl in that respect, and if it is any better, then it must be very marginal.

    Where it is improved is that it is of a much more robust build quality, albeit the penalty for this is that it is bigger, and heavier.

    It is claimed that the IS is better, although I never had any complaints with the Mkl.

    I did consider the 24-70, but as a versatile everyday lens, 70mm came up a bit short for me, especially with the full frame 5D MklV.

    Having the 100-400L Mkll, and the 1.4x TC, I can go from 24mm to 400mm with just two lenses, or 560mm with the 1.4x in-line.

    Cost wise the 24-105L Mkll is expensive, but I did make use of the 150 cash back, and got a fair price for my Mkl in part-ex from WEX.

    The 'bottom line' is that I do not regret making the upgrade, and am happy with the lens.

    Fortunately, it is not one of those affected by the focus problem re-call.

    Thanks Dave, that's reassuring. As a matter of interest, was you lens serial number after the '51's - just wondering if they were earlier ones....

    No Les, it started with 49, but on entering the complete number into the Canon 'link', it said "your lens is not affected".

    A bit strange in that it would seem that only some in each number group are affected.
