    Sutton Hoo

    Today started off pretty grim (it got better later) so we headed off to Sutton Hoo, site of a 7th century Anglo-Saxon ship burial. I also thought it would be a good opportunity to try out my little used "nifty fifty". This is a replica of the helmet that was unearthed and reconstructed - the original is in the British Museum.

    Wow; that is just tremendous detail...
    At f/2 it's blurred off the background nicely, but unfortunately has also left the nose, eyebrows & crown a little soft...
    Cheers;

        Cheers for the comments, guys. I'm still getting to grips with a shallow depth of field so I'll forgive myself that little detail for now

          Nice image. Sutton Hoo is worth a visit particularly if you go on one of the guided walks which are very informative.

            Thanks - we didn't actually do the guided walk despite the fact that one was just starting when we arrived. Perhaps an opportunity lost.

              The guided tours are definitely worth doing. Lots of good info and you get to enter the areas roped off to the other visitors.

                Yes, we spotted them when out looking at the mounds. We also noticed that the guide had started to lose the interest of some of the group. Perhaps they just had a short attention span!
