Tried using my Canon 1.4 v3 extender with my 5Dmk3 and Tamron 150-600g2 lens. Camera thought is was 1200mm and altered f stop from f8>f13. Are the extender compatible with third party lenses?

Re: Canon Extender lenses version 3
I've used my 1.4 III with my Sigma 150-600 (on 5D3) and it worked OK. Centre point only and little slow to focus.Canon 5D3, 7D2, 60D, Canon 70-200L f2.8 IS II, Canon 300 f4L IS, Canon 16-35 f4 L, Canon 24-105mm f/4L IS USM, Canon 1.4 MkIII extender, Sigma AF 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM, Sigma 150-600 Contemporary, Tamron SP AF 70-300 F/4-5.6 Di VC USD, Canon EF-S 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 IS

Re: Canon Extender lenses version 3
something wrong there john ,i have used a tele-convertor various brands on quite a few different bodies that will a/f at f8 and coupled to my sigma 150-600 sport ,with all of them the base F stop number usually changes to F9 which you can then increase if needed.
so if your camera is registering f.13 then i would suggest its to do with your camera settings

Re: Canon Extender lenses version 3
I think I may know what's wrong
Special Note About the 5D Mark III
When this camera was first launched, it did not provide AF at f/8. This ability was added in a firmware update in April 2013, when the firmware was bumped up to V 1.2.1. If you have a 5D Mark III that does not appear to be working for AF at f/8, perhaps you have not got the firmware up to date. This is especially possible if you purchased a second-hand camera. Check that firmware number in the menu system!
