    New laptop

My old laptop is about 7 years old (I think) and whilst I've upgraded the memory and disk I can't go any further with it. And it seriously struggles with the processing that I do in DPP and Affinity. Therefore, I recently treated myself to a new one, which arrived today.

Obviously the first thing to do was get DPP installed and I've just run a quick comparison:

The old laptop took 1 minute 35 seconds to take a RAW file and convert it to a jpeg (no resize).
The new one did it in 17 seconds!

I think I'm rather pleased with my purchase

Cheers Andy. About 600% quicker (if that's how it works for 1/6th of the time!)

Did you go for an SSD or is it "spinning rust"?

          1TB SSD, 32GB RAM, Core i7-7700, 4K display (lovely!).
Not cheap, but hopefully worth it over time.

Cheap isn't the word that springs to mind with that spec but it should be good for a fair few years I would think

Yeah, I looked at cheaper specs but decided that I'd just need to upgrade again sooner, so false economy.

That's what I told the missus, anyway

Definitely a case of go cheap, pay twice.

My Mrs. and I are both Mac users. I can see a second mortgage in my future.

In that case, mine was positively cheap!

Decent processor + decent memory + enough storage x 2 = much sucking of teeth...

Would you care to share Maker and Model details as I am in the same situation except that by laptop and tower are both eleven years old.

Sure, it's a Dell XPS-15 9560 which I got from the Dell Outlet as 'Certified refurbished'. They don't have any exactly the same currently (but the stock list changes very frequently) but they do have a 9550 of similar spec which just has the previous version of the i7 processor.
