    Selling using mpb.com

I have some camera equipment to sell and have received a good quote from mpb. Does anyone have experience of using them and if so would you recommend them for selling equipment?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Brian, I have sold equipment through them and they are very reasonable. They also send a courier to collect your items. I would recommend them.

Have usually found mpb prices to be slightly (~5%) better than other offers ... no transaction issues, would also endorse them.

Have also used WEX when they have had a trade-up offer which offset a lower valuation ...

I've bought and sold from/to them. In my experience they are a good outfit to do business with. You could of course advertise your kit in the forum Brian.

They offered me a grand less than what they were selling the same item for , I passed , thought that was just plain greed .

Fallow, I could well believe it, problem with all sites like this is they, one have to make a profit and two have to charge VAT on any sales, so they have to factor that into the price, if a secondhand lens say sells for about £1000, they have to knock £200 off what they can offer simply to cover the VAT, then they have to make a profit as well, plus they need to pay courier fees to collect it, inspection, cleaning etc if needed and then warranty it against defects for a period of time, plus they may have to sit on it in stock for a while, It all bites into what they can offer for it.

Makes sense, Tony. Like anything, part-ex is great for lack of hassle but selling privately will almost certainly get you the best price. I think when I get to upgrade, I'll probably try the classifieds here first and if there's no interest it will be "a well-known on-line auction site" as the BBC say.

                      Re: Selling using mpb.com

Manager I spoke with at a pretty successful US store was very open about his policy - offer around 50% and resell around 75%. The rates would vary some depending on the actual dollar price of the item but he worked on about 25% margin to cover everything except sales tax.

                        Re: Selling using mpb.com

Well my interest was to trade up , so they would of been making money on the item I brought from them as well as the lens I was trading in , like I said it all seemed a bit greedy to me , I wont be offering them business again , will sell privately and buy from Wex instead , as it`s closer to me . I might add that wex were no different , just as greedy .

The prices offered by mpb are regardless of if you are trading up with them or taking cash.....I found them very good but on one occasion failed to collect...I suspect that was DPD's problem not mpb's.

Ebay will be a last resort for me. Their charges are too much for a start. Yes, classifieds here first and then MPB for a hassle free deal.

Well if they want peoples money surely they should be trying to out do there competitors ? Or dosn`t business work like that any more ? I can see how it`s easy and hassle free , but that costs , which is fine if you don`t mind chucking money away I suppose . I don`t personally think ebay would fleece you as much Nat to be fair . WE got choices of where we spend our money , these suppliers should remember that in my opinion .
