    the light has highlighted the mallard (female) quite well but still a little dark. Increasing the exposure by half a stop and then the shadows will help her to stand out a little more

        Hi Nigel; I quite like the effect of the lit bird in the shadows... Contrary to Stan & Tom (I like to be controversial at times ) my inclination would actually be to darken the bulk of the image and lighten the bird to really put it in the spotlight - maybe by way of a savage vignette ?????
        Cheers;

            Thanks folks. I had a similar comment on the AP forum so I did a rework...

            This is probably closer to how it looked visually...

            It's possible the duck appears darker than might be expected as I optimise my better images for the clubs projector which tends to push the highlights a bit more strongly than my monitor does.

              Hi Nigel; much better IMO - I like that a lot. The eye is now drawn straight to the duck and the distraction of the foliage is much reduced... Good to see a 40D still performing well - it was/is a super piece of kit... I wore mine out!

                Thanks Lee.

                Yes the 40D is a remarkable piece of kit, so much so that until the 80D I haven't really felt even a tiny urge to move on...
