    New Life...

    This sequence of shots of a Red Hartebeest doe & its newborn calf was taken over just 15 minutes...

    1. Sadly we missed the birth; but arrived on scene just after the afterbirth had been delivered... The calf is actually behind the grass tussock...

    2. Calf makes its appearance...

    3. Mum finishes cleaning little'un off and gives a gentle nudge to start it moving...

    4. Up; but still quite unsteady... But - hey - what do you expect at about 20 minutes old???

    5. Mum tries to get a few minutes R&R after birthing...

    /cont...
    Cheers;
    Lee

    6. Mum back on duty attending to Junior...

    7. A final check-over...

    8. And some nudging towards the vital areas...

    9. And that was it... From birth to stepping out; not more than 30 minutes!

    Hope you enjoy...

            Not so exotic Trev... much further south... they are Red Hartebeest.

            The sequence was shot in Addo national park; about an hour's drive north of Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Not a huge park, but very worthwhile visiting if you're in the area and quite productive on both the mammal & bird fronts...
