    Nature isn't perfect

I didn't arrange these flowers (I did grow them) I leave that to SWMBO. Making my first tea of the day this morning, I just thought they would make a reasonable still life subject before they ended up in the recycling bin.
No special lighting just that coming through the kitchen window, a piece of black card behind and that's it. Hand held shooting along the kitchen worktop, elbows creating some stability. Can you spot the thistle?

nice arrangement Peter but I dont think the mass of stems in the vase add anything to the shot and scrolling on my screen, a square crop looks much better

Nicely done Peter, that certainly brightened up my morning.

Bearing in mind Stan's comments, I have had a quick "play" and darkened the brighter stems and altered the crop a little. What do you think?

P.S. I did notice the thistle.

Thanks Colin your tweaks work very well, what did you do to darken the stems?

Just used the "Burn" tool in PS.

Set the Range to Highlights and the Exposure to 10%, then carefully brush over the brighter stems a few times, until you tone them down. By just affecting the highlights, the other tones are protected and the exposure at 10% allows you to gradually darken the areas you want to.

            Hope this helps.

Next time Peter, I wonder if it's worth lining the inside of the vase with black paper. This would obviously hide the stems and possibly make the thistle on the vase stand out more, ( or that may be more of a distraction)

I did think about doing that John. But I was concerned about getting the paper wet [emoji6]
