Setting up HDR on a 5DIII

I've read the article in EOS magazine about HDR and thought I'd set it up on my 5DIII. I want to save the setting to one of the custom functions (C3) but the camera will not allow me to. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

I think you will have to set up the camera as you want it for HDR (i.e. using the "Expo.comp/AEB") menu option and then save, rather than try to use the built-in HDR mode - this also has the advantage that you can keep the images in RAW for more control when you come to process them.

Thanks John. My only problem with that is that I will be hand holding so really wanted the Auto Image Align option. I've decided to put the HDR mode in 'My Menu' so it won't take long to activate it. The 5DIII is a travel/back up camera so I probably won't be using HDR that often.

thats correct once you have the setting you want then save as a custom mode to which ever C number you want

I very seldom use a tripod when doing HDR and the only time i do is when light is the problem. By only using the HDR mode you will limit what the 5D will do as it will only take 3 brackets, but will give you an edited jpeg.. Following Johns advice you will get a lot more from your HDR photography especially if you get a good processor as well

I went on an 80D course with Nina, and she suggested that if you wanted to do HDR in camera, avoid the Scene Mode and instead go into the "High ISO speed NR" menu > select the last icon which is "Multi Shot Noise Reduction" and it combines 4 consecutive shots to create one low-noise image. The only problem is that you cannot do it with RAW, only jpegs, but the results are pleasing. I added it to My Menu and also took a photo on my phone to remind me how to do it!
