    BBMF in Thompson Formation

    Hi All,

I hesitated about posting these as the light was absolutely awful and I was stood in the wrong place for the area they were practising for.

This is a new Display for BBMF called the Thompson Formation, flying 4 Fighters but this time they are joined by the Lancaster, it is to commemorate 60 years since the formation of BBMF and Wing Commander Thompson was the first OC

The day after this Practise Prince William was visiting the Flight along with a large number of Veterans and the Display Practise was therefore in the area near the BBMF Hangar, and I chose the wrong place to stand!!

Anyway, just to show what they are up to here are some efforts

Actually some nice images. Got to love the sound of these aircraft.

Hope to see them at our 'Yanks' weekend (some of the film was shot in our location).

The BBMF usually does a couple of passes through the valley at some point during the event.

I like them all, but 186 the single Lanc on the slight diagonal is an iconic shot and worthy of going on the wall.

                  Hi Paul,

Nice set of pictures. They did this Thompson Formation at RIAT and I have to say, from a photography point of view - it was a pile of crap! All we saw was the underneath of aircraft. There was some irony, too - the picture the BBMF posted on their official site was taken on the outside from Totterdown Farm campsite. They must've had an excellent display, whereas us poor saps inside, didn't! The BBMF had been doing quite well up to this point in the season - we've had half a dozen excellent topside passes at Old Warden. Looks like they've gone back to their old ways.

Oh dear Neil, bad luck there Mate, you will have to come to Coningsby when they are building up to PDA next April, guaranteed top side close ups!

                      Hi Paul,

Think you're right, mate. I'm taking early retirement at the end of the year, so I'll be able to be more flexible with my photography. Coningsby visits will be more frequent, that's f'sure.

                      Cheers,
                      Neil

Weather & light may not have been that good from you point of view but I really like them, and the Lancaster is an iconic shot of that plane.

                          Thanks Neil and Sue,

As the BBMF are on their mid season 2 week break, when they return there is a good chance they will do a few practises over Coningsby, I will try and post an update if I find anything out.

                          Regards Paul
