5D4 High ISO v Low Noise performance.

Just back from a 5 day break in the Peak District, and as you do , I visited a couple of caves (old Lead Mines).

I'm not posting this as 'work of art' (lol), but I wanted to push the ISO on the 5D4 to see how it coped, and I have to say, I'm impressed.

The shot was taken in the cave, with just tiny lamp shining from above.

    24mm FL, 1/30th at f/5.6, and ISO 12800. Lens 24-105L Mkll.

The image is a direct upload, so will have been compressed a bit.

Here's a better example, this time linked to Flickr, so better resolution.

Inside Chatsworth House, in Derbyshire. Flash not allowed, so taken at ISO 10000 with the 5D4.

          Very impressive.

Gone are the days when anything above ISO400 was bin fodder.

The Chatsworth image is certainly impressive Dave - out of interest, what level (if any) of noise reduction have you applied to it?

None at all John. I just lifted the shadow areas a tad, in Photoshop Elements.

The images looked good on the camera, but when I got home, and looked at them on a high res 27" monitor, I was really impressed. Much better than I was expecting.

In a word, the 5D4 is an 'amazing' piece of kit.

I don't think you will be disappointed Gordon, in fact you will be impressed with its capability. I thought my 5d3 was good, but the 5d4 takes high ISO shooting to another level.

If you don't have any real need to go above ISO 6000 Brian, there isn't much the 5d3 can't handle, and I certainly loved mine, but I'm now loving the 5d4 even more, albeit not what it cost.

I would have thought the 4k motopn that can take out a still and the 30mb picture, faster frame rate and quiet mode might be useful

I disagree the low light focusing with the Mk IV is stunning far better then the Mk III
