    Oh! what a difference......

between these two versions of a shot I took at the local Art College exhibition.

SWMBO (amongst her many other talents) does a bit of enamelling on copper and silver and has been attending a series of evening sessions at the Bristol College of Art where she has been concentrating on cloisonne.

The College is holding its exhibition of student work and SWMBO had some pieces on show.

I took my camera, not really expecting to get anything worthwhile, since I knew the items would be in glass cabinets to foil the light-fingered and I expected (and got) lots of reflections etc when trying to photograph the pieces, as the first (awful) example below shows.

But what a difference in the second version of the same image - and the trick? Just whack the dehaze slider over to the right in LR. Bingo!!

    The original version.

the dehaze tool, both in lightroom and of course ACR in Photoshop is an excellent tool particularly in sorting shots through glass and those in flat light

The other useful thing which I use at zoos etc, I bought a cheap deep rubber lens hood off eBay, it allows the lens when pushed up against glass to cut out any reflections and stray light off it and also being rubber it allows you to angle the lens slightly while retaining the light seal. They also fold back flush so take up little room. I have one on my 100-400.
