      I like the inclusion of the yellow background. Not clue on the id. though, I find the more I read to try and identify them, the more confused I get.

            It is a species of Eristalis, so it is a hoverfly, more specifically a drone fly. Larvae are the "rat-tailed maggots" which develop in wet decaying vegetation, often at pond edges, so not an aphid feeder like many hoverflies. Can't be sure of exact species.
