"Professionals" using a red camera body??

This is probably a daft question. However, a few days ago a friend of mine went to a horse show and he mentioned to me that he saw two photographers with very long lenses- one being a white one (presumably a Canon lens) and red camera bodies. I was quite surprised to hear this as I thought most professionals will use black camera bodies.

    Any ideas on this?

    Thanks

I agree Chris, but I wonder whether a professional photographer would like to conspicuous with a red body?

I don't know why, but I expect that having a DSLR with white Canon telephoto lens at a sporting event makes you pretty conspicuous in the first place. Having a cover to protect your expensive gear from the elements seems like a good idea, and perhaps they just wanted to stand out from the crowd of black-bodied cameras.

I'm sure there are many owners of long lenses (including white ones) who aren't professionals and so these might have been keen amateurs. And some people just like to be different. So far as I know, some of the lower end Nikon and Pentax models are the only DSLRs which can be bought in red finish and so I'm sure the cover idea must be correct.
I wonder how many white and silver 200D models will be sold? They must show signs of wear more easily than black ones.

Certainly did not ask my friend, but I am sure he would have noticed such things as Stilettos of any colour!

I have a red silicon cover on my EOS 700D. I am by no stretch of the imagination a professional photographer however.

I bought the cover for several reasons - (a) I used to photograph a lot of rallies and often there would be a lot of dust in the air - I thought it was one way of helping keep the dust out of the camera workings. It's also good in rain. (b) My wife has an EOS 650D - in the heat of the moment, I did, on a few occasions pick up her camera and try to shoot with it - but her "standard" settings are completely different from mine and more often than not, I'd miss the shot. (She now has a black silicon cover on hers!). (c) It's just something different and I've often had people strike up a conversation by asking what kind of camera it was.
