    Cave (HDR)

    6D

Recently I was online watching a bunch of videos one of which was about photographic discipline and determination. Don't give it up till we get something done. That kind of thing.

This image of a cave isn't a winner. It's a bit different though, so just about scrapes through. It certainly took discipline and determination to get the shots I wanted. We can get a sense of achievement out of that if nothing else!

    Thanks for looking.

its never easy to do good HDR when the range is so high and whilst the outside is a little over I'd say you've done well looking at how dark the inside of the cave looks - I would have lost the flare though

Thanks Ian. Appreciate it. Yes, I probably could paint out the flare, though I did leave it there deliberately. Think I've been watching too many modern movies! Getting a realistic result from extreme contrast ranges is tough. I enjoyed the challenge though.

Well done.. I like the flare in as it gives this beckoning of coming out of the darkness of the cave and into the light.

That was a tough image to make, and you've done a fantastic job. I think I marginally prefer the mono version on your website; for some reason when I see the colour at the end I focus less on the lovely textures of wall and floor.

Thanks so much, Tom and Alex. Yes, the mono version probably edges it. As Ian points out the colour is strong.

              I love this image.

I've been wanting to do something similar for several months now and if I can get something half as good as yours, I'll be happy!

Thanks Jock, appreciate it. I hope it works out for you. I'm sure it will. More than anything else it's a fiddly business setting up shots like this and getting the tones you need for software, but very doable....
