    A Bit more Success

This week was the annual Dorset Arts and Crafts Exhibition and we usually enter prints in the photography section. We usually do quite well and 3 years ago I won the wildlife trophy, Dee got it 2 years ago but last year neither of us
However all changed this year and the trophy is back at our house with my image of a pair, mum and junior sedge warblers.

As a bonus, Dee sold one of her pictures and I sold 2 copies of one of mine so the money will buy a few extra euros whn we visit Menorca in October

A worthy winner. I particularly like it because it doesn't look TOO much like a photo, reminds me of the sort of watercolour images that you used to get in bird books (before field guides took over) showing birds in natural poses and habitat.

Might sound strange, but it in a way reminds me of a designer wallpaper. Excellent image, well done.

Wonderful shot, seems to have a gentleness to it somehow.

              Congratulations

                    Re: A Bit more Success

                    Thanks very much guys

I wish I had taken it.
this was one of those "lucky" shots. We had been trying to get shots of this family of sedge warblers at Elmley Mashes on the Isle of Sheppy but they were flitting in and out and behind the bush, making getting a shot very difficult. Eventually I managed to get a clear shot of the female (the lower bird) and it wasn't until I reviewed the shot on the computer that I realise I had the juvenile in frame as well and both birds were sharp. The shot comprises the full frame top and bottom and has just been cropped on both sides

I particularly like it because it doesn't look TOO much like a photo, reminds me of the sort of watercolour images that you used to get in bird books
the shot has done very well in camera club and regional competitions during the past year but in five international competitions, out of four images entered, it is the only one that never got an acceptance and one of our camera club judges thought it was for that very reason

The judge gives a gold award to the best images, same as a 10 in camera club competitions and those are the photos that are then considered for the trophy. I was lucky enough to have a gold award for this shot of the burrowing owl family as well
