Spotted these two at the Blue Pool last week and thought they were a pair mating but not too sure and think it could be a robber feeding on a hoverfly

It is indeed a robberfly feeding on a hoverfly. It's Neoitamus cyanurus the Common Awl Robberfly. Never sure why they are called robberflies, since they invariably kill and never rob

interesting to see just how big prey they go for and makes them easier to photograph as he was still there after us watching and shooting for around a half an hourIt is indeed a robberfly feeding on a hoverfly.Comment
