    Robber Flies Mating...or not

    Spotted these two at the Blue Pool last week and thought they were a pair mating but not too sure and think it could be a robber feeding on a hoverfly

    A corker of a shot and I also think that they look like two different species.

      It is indeed a robberfly feeding on a hoverfly. It's Neoitamus cyanurus the Common Awl Robberfly. Never sure why they are called robberflies, since they invariably kill and never rob
      It's also a female.

        It is indeed a robberfly feeding on a hoverfly.
        interesting to see just how big prey they go for and makes them easier to photograph as he was still there after us watching and shooting for around a half an hour
