Setting both cards to record RAW on 7DMKII

Hi,
I am trying to set my 7DMKII to record RAW to both cards but am having a problem setting them up.
I have altered the settings to. Auto switch card and Record play to card 1 which is the CF but when I use the camera it uses
the SD card first which I don't want as I prefer to use the CF card mainly because it is a much larger capacity and higher speed so only want to switch to the SD if the CF fills up.
I have gone through the set up a few times but I get the same results. Am I doing something wrong ?
Any help advice will be welcome.

Adrian, from memory if you remove the CF card from the camera and close the card slot door then the camera will switch to recording on the SD card. An example of this would be removing the CF card to upload images from the card to computer (including closing the card slot door). When you put the CF card back in the camera the camera doesn't switch back to recording on the CF until the SD is full.

I have just shot a few images with just the CF card in and it recorded to that I then put the SDcard in and shot a few more and it carried on recording to the CF card. I then took out the SD card to check to see if it was blank re inserted it and the camera recoded to the SD card and not the CF

That seems strange did you close the card slot cover when you took the SD card out.
BTW you could have checked if anything was on the SD card without removing it from the camera by changing the setting. However as you are concerned regarding what is going on I can understand why you chose to take the card out.

I've just checked my camera settings:-
Auto Switch Card ☑️
Record/Play Slot 1 (CF) ☑️
Folder is camera generated
Both cards recording = raw.

With both cards in place and the above settings. Images record to slot one (CF) until it is out of memory at which point the camera will record to slot 2 (SD)
However if I take the CF card out and close the card slot door. Switching the camera on and checking the settings menu it shows "unable to switch cards" which is to be expected. However after replacing the CF card, closing card slot cover, causes the record/play to be shifted to slot 2 i.e. without me making that change.
Because of this play/record switching on the closing of the card slot door, when I take a card out to download images from it to the computer via a card reader I always leave the card slot door open and only close it when I have finished the download and replaced the card.

Hi Peter,
Many thanks for that and that has done the trick. I just tried what you explained and it works perfectly. I never would have thought closing the cover would trigger it to revert back.
