    Amsterdam

At last I've been able to get out - only had one day and a little road trip around Holland but I got a few interesting shots I hope - he's the first effort

I like the sky on this image Ian. Are you using Aurora for your HDR work? IF yes, might I suggest that you soften the water a bit as IMO would enhance the overall look to the image.

Nice one Ian. Allegedly the windows version of Aurora is not too far away; good for us PC people.

Shame the weather wasnt too good for you but you have created a nice atmospheric shot. I might have considered cropping a bit from the left to remove the boat on the edge of the frame and would also then move the clock tower a bit more off centre.

A few days in Amsterdam was one of our first holidays together some 16 years ago and I think it rained half the time then

thanks Stan, yeah that left boat, I really couldn't make my mind up, so left it :) will be interested to hear if others think it should go

as for weather, it seems to be wet / dull more than dry / sunshine I was lucky and got one fine day out of 5 and got an amazing castle, I've only processed one, got loads more to process yet, but will post that soon

Very nicely done. Regarding the boat, it doesn't bother me being there at all, and I expect I'd have left it too.

If it did have to go, I'm not sure where would be the best place to crop, due to what you would be left with on the very edge of the shot, e.g. the far bell tower, the next boat in, the tree to the right of it.

that was the problem I had with the crop Chris, in the end left it

                      Re: Amsterdam

Nice work Ian having looked at this earlier and didn't comment. I can see the potential of a crop from the left to take the main tower away from the centre (ish) position. But to do so I think you would need to crop out the smaller tower in the distance as well otherwise it would be too close to the edge of the frame.
Or just scuttle the boat at the left with the content aware tool [emoji3]

Very nice, Ian, love the positioning you have of the top of the spire into the break in the clouds. My instinct too would have been to take the boat off the left but as others have said that wouldn't have worked as the small spire balances the composition so nicely, so you are right to leave as is.

Very nice shot and I think you have made the best of it. Although, I think I agree with the crop suggestion; I would take out the boat, but keep the spire to hold in the shot on the left.
