Couple of comments to make you think - perhaps.

These are worth reading, whether you agree or not :

Dear Canon, You and I have had a very, very long friendship which has lasted many years and many, many generations of cameras. Ever since...

Back in 2008 the Canon 5D Mark II was a photographer’s dream. The camera revolutionized the industry and opened new creative horizons for many professionals. The low light performance, dynamic range, and image quality were unheard of. This technological wonder was a huge hit in the photography world and beyond, especially in the indie filmmaker community. Later in 2012 came the 5D Mark III, with a solid body but somehow conservative specifications. Since then, it seems that Canon has decided to freeze progress, and lately, take a few steps backward.

Makes me think they seem to be rather more interested in the technology than the end result...

I also feel there's an element of their having pitched their expectations a bit high. I was further amused by the comments on the DR of the 5Ds models being lower than the regular version - like everything in the real world it's a matter of balance and compromise, if you double the pixel count in the same area the pixels will be much smaller and their maximum capacity is reduced which inevitably has a knock on effect on DR and noise control.

I also think when comparing 'innovation' to Nikon and Sony they ought to remember that Nikon have been some way behind for quite a long time and much of the innovation is just catching up with where Canon are now. Sony must inevitably look innovative with the Alpha 7 since no other maker has a full frame CSC while Nikon don't even have a decent small format one...

I do agree that Canon's approach to CSC's has been a bit lacklustre and they still have some way to go but the latest M models are much more on track.
