    Smeaton's Pier - Cornwall

With my usual apology for being away from this place for too long, here is one from my recent trip to Cornwall.

I like that a lot. I also think you did exceptionally well not to get the motley collection of vans and pickups plus all the anglers that usually gather there and spoiled a similar (but vastly inferior) shot I took last year

            Cheers,
            John

Thanks John. I did get there at about 0700 and had to do a bit of cloning.

              Appreciate your comments.

Patrick, I really love the tones, the balance of sea and sky and the tranquility that the long exposure has given it. But (and I really don't want to say a but because it is beautifully captured and processed) there's something about the balance that bothers me. I suspect it is just me and my OCD kicking in so please ignore me, but I am bothered by the end of the pier being just not quite halfway. I can't decide whether I'm suggesting to take a bit off the left or a bit off the right, but both work better for me. Intrigued whether anyone else thinks this or if I'm in a minority of one.

Love it Patrick....I can see what Alex is saying but I think the extra space on the right adds to the strength of the image in this case.

Fantastic shot! I'd like to get into doing some LE at some point in the future.

I wouldn't have picked up on it myself but I can also see what Alex means. I think that taking a bit off the left would work better for me than off the right.

Thanks Alex, I hadn't considered the position of the pier in that regard.I'm just an OCD rebel!

Thanks for looking and your comments, I too will be interested in what others have to say.

Thanks Chris, LE is just about my favourite type of photography. I had an excellent teacher!

Not quite doing it for me, not because of the pier not quite reaching halfway but because it rather merges with the background. A pier shot like this for me works best when the pier is delineated against a clean horizon rather than against a slightly confusing one.
