A couple of Landscapes from Cumbria

Jill and I spent last week in the Lake District, staying in a cottage fairly close to Ullswater. In fairness I didn't spend as much time out with the camera as I should have, preffering to chill out rather than get out. ;)

    Exposed - near Dockray

Landscapes often do work well in mono with the first being a fine example of this and adding the nice minimalist feel of the composition makes it even more special.

Provided the second is a straight shot - and I have no reason to think it may not be - is probably my image of the year so far: great scenery, great composition all set off with a fabulous rainbow. Yes, truly magical (pity it's not on Flickr as I'd have 'faved' it )

    Cheers,
    John

Fabulous pair of quality images, the rainbow in particular stands out.

A beautiful well taken rainbow image Andy, well done. As for the 1st image it is a top notch BW Landscape image

Stunning! Always a pleasure to see your images Andy. My wife showed me the second one last night (FB?) and I didn't realise it was yours - it's top draw!

We are off to Ambleside for a week on Saturday - really looking forward to getting out and about with the camera.

Thanks all for your comments, very much appreciated.

My own personal favourite is the black and white photo, I think it must resonate with my quiet personality. ;)

I have my wife Jill to thank for the 2nd photo, she was the one who spotted the scene out of the passenger window, as we were driving over Kirkstone Pass. I had to pull the car up sharply and in a rather awkward spot on the road.

I knew I wouldn't have much time to capture the rainbow over the fell, so the shot was taken hand-held at f/9 & ISO 200. I'm really pleased with the photo.

Yes it's on FB too, Tony. Before we left for the Lake District, Jill had been checking the weather forecast quite often. She wasn't that pleased with the mixed outlook, but I was secretly very pleased! There's little worse than clear blue sky, or flat cloud for me with landscape photography. I do love moody weather, as long as I can still get the camera out in it.

I am a bit disappointed with myself for not putting more effort into going out though .... next time perhaps.

Hope you havea good time when you go!

Both stunning images and I do not have a favourite, liking each for different reasons.

There must be thousands of shots of those same views taken in bright sunshine, but venturing out in poor weather and waiting for the light has made these different and quite exceptional.

I would be happy if I had taken either of them.

Cheers Alex, I do still take some naff photos, it's just that I'm a bit more practiced in binning them. ;)
