Beddgelert Station and NGG16 No. 87 in the rain

My motorcycle holiday this year was to Wales and, for the first time ever, instead of taking the bike-friendly G10 I took one of my 'big' cameras with me: the 7D and EF-S 15-85. The idea was to capture some of the fabulous scenery of Snowdonia but the weather had other ideas so most time was spent riding on the Welsh Highland and Ffestiniog railways.

Here's a couple of the WHR station at Beddgelert that gives some impression of the deluge we had to endure for four days:

You do pick your places and times John!!!

Looks more like snow in the second image - the first is excellent. I love the light in the clouds.

Thanks folks I've added the uncropped version of the No. 87 image here as I can't decide which works best (best seen on Flickt of course ).

Re: Beddgelert Station and NGG16 No. 87 in the rain

I think the uncropped version works better as in the first picture my eye is drawn more to speckles caused by the rain / drops on the lens etc, whereas even though those same pieces are there in the uncropped, I immediately see the wet scene and am drawn into the picture. (hope that made sense)

and crikey - what awful weather you had (he says with a small smile after returning from holiday where it was hot and sunny...).

Looks like we both chose the wrong week for our autumn break John ,I was a bit further up in the Lake District with the same weather

Thanks folks, I'm also preferring the uncropped original now.

It was an appalling few days and, had my friend not booked his ferry from Dublin, would have stayed at home. The ride up wasn't too bad (other than being delayed for over an hour by an accident on the M5 that closed the motorway). It was the ride home that tested me as it was 150 miles diagonally across the lumpy bits of Wales before a 120 mile dash down the exposed M5 all in heavy rain and strong winds.

                    Cheers,
                    John

Prefer the uncropped version as there's some balance to the big square box. Super stuff though and that rain is a belter!
