    Bass Man

A new monthly street market started in Bournemouth today and includes lots of different entertainment including a 3 piece jazz band. Owing to the number of people watching it was impossible to get all the band in shot so I concentrated on the most interesting - the double bass player

          hi Stan...

just seen this, sorry it got lost as many do, I just normally head to landscape to check out images I'm really interested in ..

I tried with many similar shots, but sadly the backgrounds do often spoil these and whilst I do understand its a street location often the background is in competition with the subject... and I think this is a case here. I do think with some work in PS you could pull the background back either taking the vibrance out, maybe pulling the focus back some. Saying that I do like the 3rd with the tighter crop

            cheers guys

Street photography like this is always going to be difficult to avoid distractions, one of the reasons I didnt even bother to try and shoot all the band. All these have had surface blur applied to the background to try focus the attention on the bass player - I think it works reasonably well but Dee I think had the best idea, she had a better viewpoint than I and in this shot removed the colour from all apart from the guy and his bass

I like Dees shot and process although I wouldn't have gone all the way B&W on the background, but agree these aren't easy shots

I like the action in #3 best, interesting how his expression changes, in #1 he doesn't look happy to have your Camera pointed at him then in #2 he seems to be smiling just for you.

How impressions of looks can fool you! with the Tattoos and earrings you wouldn't have thought he was a Bass player, well I wouldn't!

                      Regards Paul

I dont think he was actually smiling at me, a lot of people were shooing, maily with their mobile phones. The other expressions are are best described as he being "cool2 and getting "sent" by the music
