Red Deer stag looking very close

in a previous thread Colin mentioned that at 300 mm I must have been quite close, well I found this one which is full frame top to bottom where the 150 - 600 was zoomed to 150mm !!

We had been watching this stag scratching against a tree some 50 metres away when he started walking towards us. I was beside/ behind another tree watching and got this shot when he was some 15 metres away

That's a lovely shot Stan --- one thing I don't understand, you say WE and then say YOU were behind the tree -- where was Dee, please don't tell us you were hoping to get a shot of the thing charging!

Dee was waving a matador’s cape, behind Stan.

well she wasnt that close - the deer is walking down the "path" and to the right is a stream and i am behind the tree while Dee is on the other side of the path, quite deep in the bracken and way from any danger

Nice shot Stan. I may have taken a bit off the right so you only have half the tree as it is a bit dominant and the deer would then be off centre.

the composition would be much better if the tree was not there at all but a little of would be a good compromise

He doesn't look to happy Stan. Glad you were able to get the image before he charged.
