Re: Not a fan of squirrels!

A while ago, I wedged a suet ball into a tree stump, hoping to get some Nuthatch shots. I'd only walked away a few metres, looked back and a grey had taken it out and then ran away with it. Put some seed down and he was straight back onto the seed. I walked rapidly towards it, thinking it would run off but it just stayed were he was, flicking his tail and chattering towards me. It did eventually go after a couple of prods with my monopod (rubber foot not spike foot).

The LNR that I visit, along with Jeff and a few others, is supported by volunteers, who even supply the feed. Hence it is a nuisance to find squirrels (& even rats) enjoying the fruits of our labours!! The "stick" seems to scare these vermins away, atleast for short times!

Suet is the biggest Rat attraction , though if I remember from Nats photos it`s after the seed as well . I had a spring loaded feeder which worked quite well against squirrels , but was a bit costly .

Nat, these things are Tree Rats, I live in the middle of woodland, its nothing for us to have a dozen or more on the bird table and feeders at the same time.
When you shoot Grey Squirrels you do not need to worry about Exposure, Speed, ISO etc.etc. Just a firm positive pressure on the trigger - BANG

I’m with you Trev, won’t be able to get the reds back up until we shoot the greys.
