    Spotted Hyena

    Hyenas are much maligned but they provide an essential service by clearing up the remains from kills thereby keeping disease at bay. They have one of the strongest jaws in the animal kingdom, capable of crunching through bones. This individual was photographed in the same vicinity as the wild dogs and was probably hoping for a free meal.

    EOS 1DX with 300mm f/2.8L IS II lens and 1.4 III converter.

    Thanks for looking.

              Always enjoy seeing Hyena... As you say, they are essential, like Vultures, also much maligned...
              Cheers;
