        Thanks Colin,Peter and Tom. It needed 5 elements with my 6D:- 70-300mm lens,polarising filter,large umbrella to block all reflection,Brasso & an assistant to hold the umbrella for me. I am pleased that it worked.

            Thanks Trev. I still had to use the polarising filter despite using Brasso to cut out all reflection.

              Try doing a brass rubbing to get the inscription, photograph that and see if you can superimpose it in a shot of the plaque, and use the polariser!
