    Hard case for storage

After a lot of thinking, I've concluded that the best way to store my kit safely is in hard foam lined cases. Some of these produced by "famous name" companies are really expensive, but I've just bought two of these and am very happy with them

The image here is one of mine, I'm part way through filling it with my bigger lenses. To give an idea of capacity, the lens top left is the Sigma 100 - 400 C, the bottom right is the Canon 200 mm L II. The other case will hold my bigger bodies and some more lenses. I have an old aluminium case I was given 25 years ago, I've replaced the foam (from the same supplier) and it now holds the 100d, 200d and all the EF-S fitting lenses. The cases sit on deep shelves and are easy to take out to select "kit for the day".

At £25 each I reckon these are a very good buy, I'd be happy to stand on one if I had to. For travelling, you can fit small padlocks for extra security. They do come with shoulder straps, but I doubt if I'll use them.

Thanks Richard, I have been pondering something similar for a while, it makes it easier seeing it in use.

Thanks from me too as that's just what I've been looking for. Most I've looked at have been at $illy money yet these seem excellent value.

      Cheers,
      John

If you try these a few bits of advice :

Plan everything carefully before you try to remove any of the foam cubes, once you take them out, you can't put them back. Lay the kit out on top of the foam first and arrange it in the best possible configuration

Don't try to pack too much in, leave two rows of foam between each item.

If you have heavy and lighter items, put the heavier ones on the hinge side, then when the case is standing on its side, they will be at the bottom.

The one I have is deep enough for normal bodied cameras such as 5D/80D, but I guess would not be deep enough for 1D. It's a bit deep for some lenses and so I use some of the foam cubes I've removed to pad the bottom and raise these lenses higher.

I have a couple of these type boxes you can put a 1D also other EOS body`s with grips in.
You just have to lay them down flat back down .
