    Jamaica

    Hoping this is the right location as Jamaica sits off the coast of Central America.

    As Ian pointed out in another post, Cruise Ships take too to a location, they Dock between the hours of 0700 to 0900 and then leave the ports between 1700 to 1900. That means it leaves you with the most unflattering light of the day to take photos. It's a challenge but can be done.

    On these images we Dock in Falmouth at 0800 and left at 1800. Our tour started at 1000 as we boarded a bus and had to travel 1 hour to Montego Bay, where we stopped at the Montego Bay's Oldest Church. St. James Parish Church,, built around 1775. We had 10 minutes to use the rest room and take photos, before heading off to the next sight.

    Jamaica is a very poor country, despite that the government has a 25% flat tax on income + 2 1/2% School Tax + 2 1/2% Social Security Tax + a 16 1/2% Consumption Tax on everything you buy. As you travel down the roads and see the housing, it makes you wonder what the government does with the monies they collect.

    Our last stop must be run by the tour company as it was in an enclosed farm where we were able to taste some of the local cooking that they adapted for tourist taste. Here on some of those images:

    Form there it was a long bus trip back to the ship, then board before the 1800 departure time.

        Hi Tom; very good reportage set. Time is always a challenge when cruising.... but we enjoy it. Don't know how experienced a cruiser you are, but we find that private local taxi tours are always a much better bet than the ship's tours; you generally get to see more, and in a more relaxed way as well....
        Cheers;
        Lee

          Thanks Lee, this is out 13th Cruise and at times we do private tours, but in places like Jamaica and getting off Cozumel, we don't want to risk the chance to be left behind by the ship. Some people don't believe that will leave you, however we have seen many running to the dock as we waved good-bye as the ship was leaving the dock. The only time have I've seen a ship stay past it's time is when they are waiting for their sponsored exertions to return.

            Yes; we've seen it many times... but we tend to choose high-rated guides who know they have to get you back in time. As a precaution, we always take our passports with us... just in case
