    Night Cafe

One of my reasons for going to Lisbon was to try and find a scene like this as I do enjoy processing them.. I know this won't be for everyone but I was pleased with the outcome, a lot of dodging and burning, lost count how many layers it ended with LOL

    Some really good pp work.

For me the couple in the foreground are just a bit bright, almost an image in itself.

thanks Ant.. I could have cropped it just on them but I really wanted to tell a story with the photo showing life going on around the cafe. Yes they are bright, unusual for me LOL...but I wanted a strong focal point

        Re: Night Cafe

That's really good. You've captured a wonderful scene and processed it really well.

Not really related to your image but I wonder if it's still possible to take an image like this without a mobile phone being in the shot?

Well captured and very well processed I do like these images but find it sad that the timeless quality is spoiled by the intrusive and ubiqutous mobile

            Cheers,

                  Re: Night Cafe

Love it! I only wish I could 'see' the potential of these scenes, AND, have the PP ability to make it work!

I like the lighter main subject, fading as we move back; that all helps draw the eye across the image, while the use of mobiles tel;ls it's own story; as is usual today (sadly)... the couple are out for dinner or drinks, and both too engrossed in their own worlds to take note of each other; meanwhile the guy on the next table looks like he wants to know what's going on as well :-)

                  Great job...
                  Cheers;

                    Re: Night Cafe

thanks Peter, if I'm honest I had a bit of luck with this shot. I walked past and took one of the scene which was OK but didn't have much going on and had I not later taken this would have processed it and loved it LOL...

But in the non edit image on the far left you can see a lift on the outside of the building and there were using it to get a new sofa in through the window on the top floor. No H&S as people were walking all around as this massive sofa went up and in LOL. I've seen it often here as doors and stairs often mean they need to use outside windows, but thought I would watch this one. Its whilst it was going on I looked over and saw this shot :)

Fantastic image...bags of ambience...I like the dodging and burning as it has a super effect here....and it makes it your artwork.

                        Re: Night Cafe

That's a really nicely composed & well processed shot.

Seeing the original is very useful too, as it shows what can be achieved from something that started off so "normal". On many occasions I've decided not to take a shot mainly as I've not been able to see any decent end-result in them and this addresses that issue really well, so thanks!
