    Aldeburgh

I was in two minds whether to bother trying to photograph the scallop on the beach, but in the end I had a go.

I'm not sure if either of these works - what think you?

A different viewpoint and processing that I think works - making it look like a Guylian chocolate seashell

    Cheers,

      Re: Aldeburgh

I've also previously tried different viewpoints of the Scallop (and posted them here) as the straight-on view is pretty ubiquitous. I think it's well worth trying these things! I prefer the sky of #1 but the viewpoint of #2, if that helps any

I do prefer the first ...but without the birds :)

your process has pulled a lot of noise into the sky that for me would need looking at also you've got a bit of a halo going around it that needs some work. But I think with such a good shot and the drama you've pulled into it I think its worth having a play to resolve these issues, least I would :)

Agree with everything Ian has said and would also level the horizon.

John, Chris, Ian & John - many thanks for looking chaps and for your helpful suggestions.

I have shot the birds, tilted the world on its axis to get the sea level and silenced some of the noise in the sky - result below.

Not sure how to tackle any halo issues though - any suggestions?

I would use the clone tool in PS - looks doable to I think..

or another option which could be easier would be to swap the sky completely using a blending mask in PS

Very nice again - how about a little dodging and burning to brighten up the shell a little?

In the second the shell has a soft sheen to it which doesn't seem to be present in the third one. Agree a bit of dodging and burning may help. Looks a beautiful item to photograph. Certainly something to return to. [emoji106]
