Why does it exist, and has anyone used the life-size converter for the 50mm macro?

I have one, but have very rarely used it. Only when going for a very long walk and trying to keep weight down. I have heard it can be used with the 100mm macro but I have never tried.....

I hadn't thought of weight. Makes good sense though.
I quite like the 50 lens for what it is, and use it for photographing paintings and drawings. It's as sharp as anything and doesn't distort (to my eye anyway). I just can't justify the converter. The 50mm and converter combination doesn't cost much less than the 100mm macro.Comment
