Re: 1DXMKII
I have the MKII and it is an awesome piece of kit. Fast, responsive and it seems to be an extension of me.
If you have previous experience of a 1 series, you will quickly adapt. If not, take the time to zero in the custom functions to how and what you shoot. Get this right and you have a precision instrument, geared to what you need. Get it wrong and you have custom functions fighting against each other, resulting in a right dog to use.
I almost envy you discovering just how amazing this camera is. It won't make you a better photographer, but it will compliment your skills and it will keep shooting in conditions where others would have packed up and gone home.Colin

Re: 1DXMKII
Hi
Have to agree with Colin - superb piece of kit. I have both the the Mk ii and Mk i. The Mk i was exceptional when it first came out, but it's now only very good after the introduction of the Mk ii.
What camera are you upgrading from?

Re: 1DXMKII
Hi Thanks for the responses. my progression is as follows, 30D, 7D, 7DMKII. I plan to keep the 7DMKII and sell the 7D (ha if there are any takers). I love the 7DMKII but still fight with dull conditions, early mornings, evenings etc. I have the following lenses in my collection which I believe will be compatible with the IDXMKII. Canon EF 100-400mm f4.5-5.6L IS USM Telephoto Zoom , Canon F2.8 100mm Macro, 200mm F2.8, Sigma 150 - 600 mm F5-6.3 Sport.

Re: 1DXMKII
The Canon lenses are all compatible and would expect the Sigma to be so as well. Presumably the rest of your kit is non-compatible EF-s type glass?Nigel

Re: 1DXMKII
I went from mk1 to the mk2 and agree with everything young Colin stated, take the time to set it up correctly and you will love the results.
BUT
Big question is what will you be shooting? the 1Dx is primarily a sports body, yes it will do everything else but if you're mainly static or slow moving stuff then save some money and go for the 5D series - just my opinion!!!

Re: 1DXMKII
The 1Dx is a big beast to carry its a work horse of a camera when I'm working(take that with a pinch of salt)i wouldn't be seen dead with anything else it just get the job done without hesitation and so reliable in any situation that maybe thrown my way.
But when it comes to taking shots of holidays the odd macro or general shooting its not the camera you may need or want hanging around your neck all day.
Think hard at the type of photography you will be shooting and how far do you want to take your hobby do you have certain goals to reach in the future?

Re: 1DXMKII
If you're doing a lot of walking around with a 1DX, then I'd highly recommend getting something like a Black Rapid RS-7 camera strap. Certainly saves on the neck ache that you get with a standard camera strap. When I'm out 'working' I usually have a 500mm mk ii lens attached to the 1DX ii - that is a weighty bit of kit to have - I can assure you!

Re: 1DXMKII
Hi I'm mainly wildlife nature, birds oh and aircraft. Well I took the plunge it arrived yesterday. I see what you mean it's a tank of a camera. Strong solid and the time I get the battery installed and get that Sigma 600mm on I think I'll cancel the gym membership. What memory cards does everyone use. Amazon do varying prices.

Re: 1DXMKII
I use the SanDisk CFast2.0 Extreme Pro 64GB and the less expensive Transcend CF cards either 600x or 1000x; 8 & 16GB. When I bought my 1DX ii Canon were giving away the CFast card and reader - not sure if they still do. I seem to think it was a temporary offer, but worth checking out just in case.

Re: 1DXMKII
I can only tell you what I use. I've never had a problem with Transcend CF cards and I've been using them for nearly 10 years. I still have and use the first one I ever bought. The CFast card is exceptionally good, but I guess you'd expect that, anyway.Neilly's Flickr Page
