    flickr clamping down

anyone else noticed flickr seems to be clamping down ,if you post to to many groups its asking you to upgrade .in other words pay for what has been a free service for the last few years .
    suppose it had to happen

I’ve not noticed but then I’ve been a pro user for over two years so wouldn’t have done.

I’m having a struggle to see what they gain from this other than restricting what they see as casual users, but then I suppose that depends on what upper limit they place on the number of groups. I did see one shot recently that was in 871 groups which felt a bit excessive to me.

it appears to be 30 groups Andy .but my gut feeling says tip of the iceberg .its definitely losing dedicated users to facebook and facebook groups but that is yet another step in the wrong direction. imho as it tends to isolate people also each pic in each group has to be added separately

        Re: flickr clamping down

It’s 30 for standard and 60 for pro users, I just found a post on the help forum about it though they could do with publicising changes like this more widely as people don’t go to those forums unless they need help... I can understand the desire to restrict to avoid people spamming shots across hundreds of groups but the other side of the argument is that really who cares if the shot is relevant to the group?

But what that does mean is that it’s probably the death of all of the XXX views groups as people won’t use their ration of groups to add those groups compared to sepcialist groups that will pick up more views...

I can’t find anything about adding one photo at a time but some groups place their own restrictions on shots per day/week, I take it you don’t mean that?

I'm a long time Pro user, but only maintain my own Flickr page.

I tried a couple of Flick groups, but found them to be really anti social places, where nobody seems to talk to anybody. A large number of members in the groups, thousands of images, but little or no discussion.

I run my own closed Facebook group for amateur togs in Suffolk, Norfolk, and Essex, with just over 100 members, and it has become a nice community like this one.

I should add, that I am not a Facebook fan, and only use my own, and a couple of other photography closed groups.

The rest of Facebook is a bit like Jeremy Kyle's waiting room IMO (lol)

                Re: flickr clamping down

When I first uploaded my kingfisher photos they were added to 30-ish bird-related groups and there were quite a few views with a few "faves" but nothing spectacular. I'm not sure it's possible to know which groups people saw the photo in, so this morning, as a test, I removed one shot from all the groups it was in, and added it to some others - mainly wildlife- & Canon-related groups.

Within minutes I had loads of notifications!

Unfortunately no-one looking at my kingfisher - they're all from scantily-clad young ladies vying for my attention. Perhaps they all absolutely loved my KF shot, who knows

I'm a member of a few landscape groups and HDR ones and they offer great feedback - I think its a case of having to pick your friends Dave :)

I don't post to groups so not seeing anything

I've come to the conclusion that tagging of photos is noted and there are obviously some who visit flickr looking for a certain type of image.

My highest ever looked at image was at one point was called "Striptease"

It's a half peeled oxo cube.
